Situated a pleasant 15 minute drive from Whangarei city at Poroti, our nursery is surrounded by avocado and kiwifruit orchards, lifestyle blocks and dairy farms, on the slopes of Whatitiri Mountain. Historic stonewalls are a picturesque feature of our district.
Our aim is to offer plants in a relaxed garden setting – no pressure. Wear your gumboots, bring the kids, and wander round our vegetable garden.
We enjoy talking about gardens and gardening and are happy to share our knowledge built up over 45 years in the horticultural and agricultural industries. Hearing about our customers successes gives us great satisfaction.
Our main area of interest is edible and fruiting plants. We are keen food growers ourselves so enjoy offering the widest possible selection, from the everyday to the unusual and exotic.
Check out our extensive Herb range which changes seasonally. A surprising range of well-hardened Potted Vegetables are available in early Spring. Seedling punnets are available all year at very competitive prices. Having previously operated a wholesale nursery supplying vegetable and flower punnets to garden centres and commercial growers throughout Northland – we know our punnets! The right varieties for the right time of year, well looked after, ensures a good result.
Pip and Stone fruit trees are supplied bare-root when dormant, usually late June depending on seasonal conditions. Our offering covers what we consider, to be the best varieties for Northland gardens based on our own, and our customers’ experience. We are happy to advise on varieties for maximum supply over the whole year.
We love perennials for the way they flesh out the bones of a garden, and offer endless variety through all the seasons. We find ourselves growing more and more, with an eye for that ‘something different’ gardeners are always looking for. Perennials are affordable and great for multiple planting.
When choosing what trees and shrubs to grow for sale, our emphasis is on hardiness, minimum up-keep, interesting varieties and suitability for Northland conditions. Customers are often surprised at our reasonable prices.
